ARTIST STATEMENT
The large abstract oil paintings of Douglas Teiger emerge through meditation and the constant pursuit of inspiration. They reflect a sense of joy and serenity. His work is a dance of co-creation with Spirit. In this dance, Spirit’s energy moves through him as he connects paint to canvas. The result is a manifestation of openness, creation, and love.
Teiger begins each painting session with a meditation that requests spiritual assistance in a process of heartfelt, loving co-creation. The meditation might start with a spiritual quotation that opens him to whatever vision comes forward, or he might simply ask for Spirit’s assistance. Once the process of creating the work commences, Teiger says, “I am lost in time, flowing with Spirit.” Each painting session ends with a moment of acknowledgment. “I am grateful for what flowed through me today.” The color, pattern, form, and texture of his work suggest both the depth and lightness, randomness, and intention of human existence. They are equally bold and gentle reminders of the need to pause, reflect and be ever-present in our world
Douglas Teiger grew up in Northern New Jersey. He attended Cornell University’s School of Architecture and received a Bachelor of Architecture and a master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. He moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and began his art career with an exhibit of architectural renderings at the Urban Center of New York City. Teiger currently shows at the TAG Gallery in Los Angeles. He maintains an art studio in the Hawthorne Arts Complex in Hawthorne, California.
